Getting ripped off...
« on: November 09, 2007, 09:10:38 PM »
Hey guys-
I am fairly new to this board. I recently got a 98 Tracker from my sister when she decided to get something else. Not being able to leave anything alone- I started to modify it a little. I ordered the spacers from Jeff and got them right away. No problems there, he was great. I also needed some other parts to complete the installation.

I found a user on here that had one of the things I was needing. I contacted the person and we came to an agreement for the strut extenders. I paid for them via Paypal so they could be shipped promptly. After recieving paymant- he claims to have mailed them and then tells me that they got lost. He tells me that he will be mailing me a refund. I am OK with that. I have never seen the refund or the parts. I have sent the user a Paypal request for the refund and have gotten no response from that OR the PMs that were sent on here.

What should be my next action? I have friends that are lawyers and cops, but really don't feel that $40 is really worth all that. I just don't like being ripped off. If it were $4 or $4000- it's still getting ripped off.

That totally sucks. The way you presented the situation without mentioning names shows me at least ,your a reasonable person. I don't know what you should do, besides possibly revealing the culprits name to the moderator. I do believe we have a list of questionable users. I'm sure there are rules and such regarding this situation, Mr. moderator, care to chime in? Me, I guess I'm not that reasonable, I'd plaster his/her name all over this and any other forum as a rip off. Good Luck.

This is a very relevant post for all of us here. and it brings us back to that other recent nightmare someone experienced here for over a GRAND. And our requests for a good vendor/bad vendor forum.

The thing about simply reporting the name to the moderator is that it's so easy for rip-off artists to just log onto a website and sell person to person under a diferent user name. That's why eBay, although sellers sometimes complain they're being reamed by them, is such a great place to BUY.

They have the personnel to monitor this nonsense and assure a good buy for you.

And although people may bash the postal service and UPS (I'm not one of them although I'm not a BIG fan of UPS), things don't just "get lost" nowadays. This is America--not Colombia.

He fed you BS to begin with, and his non-responses to you confirm that.

That realy sucks. I hope it works out and something can be done about it. I also want to thank you for putting my name in the post and letting everybody know that you had NO trouble with me. ;D I' ve sold about 160 sets of my spacers and ALWAYS try to treat people the exact way I would expect to be treated as a paying customer. So far I've only had one problem with a guy who won the item on ebay and made excuses for not paying. I have and always will try to treat my buyers the way they should be, with respect and honesty.

I am trying to believe that this may be just a case of misunderstanding and missed e-mails. That is why I didn't put any names out there. I have now gotten a PM from the person and have replied. We will see where this goes before anything else gets said. I am not one to go trashing people and their reputation for something small. Since I am new to this forum- I don't want to start a reputation as being someone that is always having problems. I have perfect reputations in other forums I am a member of and that's how I like to be known.
