Tracker Fuel Problem
« on: November 07, 2004, 01:35:31 PM »
First this is the best site on the web for zukis. I watched some off videos and was impresed I went out and bought '91 tracker and orded a set of 30x11.50 swamper sx's.

since i bought this thing It had a ruff idel so this morning i did plugs, wires, fuel fillter, air, oil filter, cap rotor. just a good tune up. and now it runs worse than evor. won't idel and short test drive that didn't make it out of the drive way

I looked down in the throtle body and the injector seems more dripping than spraying. then i pulled the injector to check the screen and got a face full fuel.

so it would seem that I have fuel presure. could I just have a bad injector? a bad pump ? a bad computer?  I tried to pull the codes but all I got was a "12"

any thought before I spend $ 250 of my lift money on a new injector?

Should be an almost invisable
spray, not dripping. But as far as
power, I would make sure you
have the wires on right, and the
plugs are gapped right, the simple
things that are easy to check, after
all, with all of those new parts it should
purr like a kitten, not stall in the drive.

Do you have a cheepo repair book ???
they aren't worth %^#$|removethispart|@#  but it does
cover the basics that are important

I did buy a cheep o repair book but it realy is almost worthless. I guess I should have just asked which go out first pumps or the injector?

Well I got 273,000 miles on my pump,
and the injector as well, tho I think
it's getting a little worn, the truck seems
to idle a little more rich than it used to

That should be OK, better than black.
As the plugs are used for a while they
will take on a reddish to light brown, it
depends on the fuel you use and the
additives in it

How about timing? PCV?  It probably wouldn't hurt to do a compression check.  I don't have my book handy; what's a "12" code?

My first thought is, check eBay, before spending $250 on a new on -- unless of course, you really want to go new.  My injector (160k as far as I know) has a nice conical spray, but some here run well without a perfect cone.

code 12 means system okay(one blink pase two blinks acording to my haynes book).
my tracker was rolled when i bought it and sat for about two years.
when I drove it home it ran great! then it sat for thee days wile i got registration and when I stated it up it ran cruddy but was driveable. I stopped and put fuel in it and didn't quite make it to napa before it all but stopped running.
and after I did a tune up it almost won't run at all. I haven't checked timming but the distributer is tight.
It's almost like the injector is completly cloged, but the screen around it was clean.
It starts up and will rev up sort of and if you slip the cluch you can take off in first but then before you get to 2500rpm it stalls then it wil pull again in second to about 2500rpm but then stalls and tops out in third at 35 mph at 2000 rpm.

and all of this is with the 235/75's that were on it.

I wonder if you didn't suck some
crap out of the bottom of the tank
and plug that new filter

Or worse yet, blow out the filter
element and pump crap into the
injector it's self, there should be
a screen to stop the crud from
getting into the injectors workings

had a freind put his ear to the tank and the fuel pump shuts off intermitently, but, a swift kick to the tank restarts the pump I checked to see if i had a loose conection but couldn't find one. Also i pulled the pump to see if the suction screen was pluged, it wasn't and the tank is sparkling clean. So, unless some one has antohter Idea to try I'm goin down to get a new pump
