Samurai stereo help please.

The way my stereo was installed had a few problems. It cut out alot and finally died, wires everywhere, and when it worked, it didn't hold the presets or remember the time.

I sort of hooked it up and it still works fine but I want it hooked correctly. It has a ground wire to the chassis, a red wire that says ignition, and a yellow that says battery.

What's the proper way to connect the red and yellow wires preferably via the fuse box. It has a 10 amp on the back next to the wire harness plug. It's a kenwood kdc 1022.

The red wire is the main power and the yellow wire is for Acc. power. If you want the proper wires to hook the stereo up too I can see if I can find my FSM but it might be easier to just yank the radio out of the SAmmy. It doesn't work any way's and I need to remove the EQ and the wiring to toss at the kick I have.

   Hook the red wire to a empty fuse location on the box that only has power when the ignition is on.Hook the yellow wire to an empty fuse location on the box that is constantly hot.

Make sure to take the time to hook up the rear support on the stereo to a firm mount, so that the stereo move with the sami and not against it!!!  That bouncing can cause many internal deck problems which is spendy!!  As they said the red is a constant hot and the yellow is hot all of the time and this is what will hold your memory!!!  A stereo shop has jumpers that come off the fuse block and provide you a tap, or some guys just use a tap off of an existing circuit!  I removed my cig lighter and used that circuit!  Good luck!!!

Thanks. The way it was wired, they tapped into the back of the ignition switch. Just spliced right into the wires with some clamp on connectors from what I can tell. I'll check into the fuse box maybe this weekend. I'm also going to run a couple of wires to the back fender wells so when I have a couple more speakers I can mount it to the abs panels I plan on putting back there. Should sound pretty good. :o :o

I forgot that I do have some water issues on my front speakers, for some reason water runs out of the heater tubes and down the sides of the zuk and into the speakers.  I put a little sealer on the top half of the speakers and the Rockfords are still running!

I bet every Samurai has that problem. I can't see how to avoid it. If you look up into the vent on the hood, the metal shield that is supposed to stop water from going into the vent isn't adequate. It sits right over the plastic venting system and lets it all in. That's also why all the leaves probably work their way in. Probably rusts out floors even on a tintop like mine. I wonder if their is a way to correct this design flaw. That will have to dealt with in another thread though. I better watch for the water on the speakers though.  ??? ??? ???
