Which is the better tire?

I'm going to get a BFGoodrich either 30" x 9.5 or 31" x 10.5 what's the better style and size ( I know I need a lift  ) for the tracker the mud terrain or the all terrain or maybe another??? I want it for snow,  off road and a DD .I have heard that the mud terrains are not very good in the snow any truth to that?
Your thoughts and experiences are appreciated!

i have a/t tires and they do well trough snow and mud and are quite on the road but i havent tried the m/t's

The Mud Terrains work great on the snow.  I think you are going to be happy with either choice, but the All Terrain would be the friendliest for road travel.  How much do you planning on running on road?  50-100 miles a day or around 10-20?

It will be a DD most of the time and a play toy the rest about 500miles a month for my DD needs. I think the mud terrains would look the best but I suspect that the knobby tire would even gut it down more. What about size?

Both tires will work well in all the conditions you described. But, each has an advantage over the other depending on the conditions:
Winner....
Road: A/T
Mud: M/T
Rock Crawling: M/T
Snow & Ice: A/T

I hear trackers are going to bog more going uphill with the 31" than the 30". So - again - are you more interested in on or offroad performance? There's no "winner" here - you just have to decide what kind of driving you'll need them for the most....

A/Ts clog up in mud real bad..... snow they will clean themselves out a little better, better on ice, pretty good in sand and dirt stuff


M/Ts are great in mud, great in snow, good on street, bad on ice, good in sand if air'd down


and in all reality if you rotate your tires all the time the M/Ts will last almost just as long as the A/Ts


I have had both and I will never go back to an A/T after having mud tires...

BFG M/T will be a good all around tire.
I'd go with the 10.5 width on 15x8 wheel.

Thanks all I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with the 30" x 9.5 mud terrain as I will driving it to and from work .And I don't want to lose too much streetability as I might with a bigger tire. I may have found a set of 85 cj rims to mount them on. Does anyone know the off set of a stock cj metal spoked rim? Or have any pics of your rig with them on it?

I prefer the MT in snow.  I had both, and honestly, the A/Ts didn't clean well in the snow.  The treads tended to pack.  Come to thing of it, they were okay in all terrain, but never excelled in any terrain.

On slick/icy/rainy surfaces, the MT is pretty poor.  The lugs have no siping, and they slide easily.

BFG just redesigned the MT and it now looks like this.http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/images/ts-dl/tires/large/mud-terrain-t-a-km2.jpg  Looks more like a Krawler, thicker cords in the sidewall, but only in really large sizes (35"+)

Now, I know your not asking for other suggestions, but I just gotta.  I have a set of 31" MTs from Pep Boys, called Definity Dakota MTs.  These things are figgin' great!  Its a MT that has siping in the tread blocks, as well as being studdable (great for snowy/icy areas).  IMHO, best MT that could be used in snowy/icy conditions.  While they are not 3-ply sidewalls like the BFG, they are still nice and best part is they cost $99 a tire, and it's buy 3 get 1 free.  Can't beat $300 for 4 MTs.

Well mine are a company benifit 0.00$ In the Michelin or BFG style I could get Krawlers ,MT,or AT or like a Michelin LTX. But I want to make sure of the style and size as I don't to get something and decide that I want something else .Loking at pics tonight now I'm thinking I should get the 31"....GRRRRRRR!

I used to run a 30 inch sport king all terrain tire, and I just recently switched to 31 inch maxxis big horn mud terrains from les schwab, and they are just as quiet and smooth as the A/Ts, but do twice as well off road... so I'd go with the 31 inch mudders.  ;)

The tire you are looking for is the Swamper Trexus MT. Good street manners, Excellent off Road and lots of sipping for snow and ice.

Not to give you even more choices but I just put a set of the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armour's on my Bronco. They are great in the snow, come with the winter rating, and are a little more agressive than the BFG A/T.



We get alot of snow and ice where I live and so far I am very happy with them. I run a set of Blizzaks on my Kick in the winter and 31"  M/T in the summer.

I run a set of super Swamper SSR with plenty of tread for off road, and siping for snow and ice. Not really too loud on the road but loud enough for those of us who like a little tire hooowl. A little pricey but they last a long time, not as long as a BFG but long enough. Just my 2cents.

Thanks for all the sugestions for other tires .But my choice will be in the BFG or Michelin line.Read again and you will understand! Any input on those tires .Looks like now I may go for the new design mud terrain.
