Uh Oh gas problem?
« on: December 10, 2007, 06:08:32 PM »
Hi all, I'm trying to figure this out. I am getting about 14 MPG with 29 inch tires, and stock 1.3 L in Sammy. I have no freaking idea why this is making me mad, are there points on the 87 sammy where there are frequent gas leaks? I've looked and cant find anything. I KNOW I shouldn't be getting that bad  of MPG.... THANKS ALL!

I wouldn't worry about a gas leak unless you can smell gas around the vehicle. If there are no obvious odors of gas, you are probably not dealing with a leak. Is this a Stick shift or Auto trans? I would suspect maybe binding in the driveline or clogged air filter/intake or exhaust...
Had a cool sig pic till I changed the text... sigh...

Digger, Sammy's do not have auto's.

As far as MPG goes, my Sammy gets around that I guess. At the time I was checking the mpg, it had a Weber, header w/2" exhaust, 4.16 gears in the TC and 32" Swampers. The speedo is off cause of the gearing and tires and I have never bothered to do the math to figure out the correction factor.

And also make sure it is in good tune. That would be the first place too look. And if you are comparing it to a stock Sammy it will be down because of the tires to start with.

The carbs on these are a step below FI. They have a lot of electronics / vacuume lines to control the Air/ Fuel mixture. If something in that system is broken, it could be making the truck run WAY too rich...
