I finally received the settlement check from the insurance company, so now begins the rebuild of my beloved X-90. Thanks to 37Kicker I already have the headlights I need and the body shop is looking for the rest of the pieces for me. Shouldn't be long now!

Anyways, I need new tires for it. I'm kinda liking the BFG AT's and they come in a 215-75/15 size. My X-90 has a 2" Calmini suspension lift and 1-1/4" trailtough wheel spacers on it. The stock tire size for an X-90 is 195-65/15 and Zig had put on 205-65/15. Do you think the 215's will clear? It looks like I have plenty of room in the wheelwells, but the tires are around $100 each, so I would like to be sure before ordering them. No one locally has the 215's in stock, so they need to be ordered...

When I convert the tire sizes over, I get the following overall diameters:

Stocks are 24.98" tall
205/65's are 25.49" tall
215/75's are 27.69" tall

Since the 215's are 2-2/3" taller than the stocks, that means a radius difference of 1-1/3". Since I have a 2" lift, that means I should have roughly 2" more wheelwell clearance than stock, right? and only 1-1/3" of extra tire to fit in that 2" of room, right? By the math it seems like it should fit just fine, but if anybody out there has any real-world experience or wisdom with this, please let me know.

Watch the turning radiun onthe front end. I went with that size because it was the max I could fit with only a little trimming off of hte bumper cover (and no metal trimming). If I remember correctly the rears barely touch the fender on full compression (Making a need for bumpstops in the rear if you go bigger.

If your replacing hte quarters and bumper cover any way, this would be the time to trim (before paint) and fit what you want in there.

This is what you need to do. Small metal strap, drill, rivet gun & jig saw or 3" cutting wheel. Done! Run the biggest tire you can as ground clearance is everything & pulling the bigger tire is no problem for your 16V.

It was with the wheel spacers on. You will have more room if you do away with the spacers and get the wheels tucked back in.
