Alternator HELP!

Alternator HELP!

While installing my new Alt, I forgot to unhook the battery cables.  Anyway, two wires (from back of alt) touched causing sparks.

Now I have NO power to anything.  What did I zap?  Is it just a fuse somewhere?

Even while trying to jump it, there is no juice.

yup, you fried either one of the main fuses (in that block on the bumber near the battery) or a fusible link
 (this I've heard exists, but not in any models I've had) ...

then again, I disconnect the battery :)

You blew a fuse in that big fuse block in front of the battery as SnoFalls said


The fuseable link which could be blown also is in the wire which runs from the alternator to the battery.

I don't see a big fuse box near the battery.  Its a 90 samurai if that makes any difference.  Thanks

doh, what I said was for trac/kicks ... I'm betting money tho the sami has a fusible link.

Hopefully a sami savvy guy will post up for ya.

Well I've looked everywhere, and cant find any fuses.  I've checked all wires, and don't see anything burnt,  am I missing something??

I really need to get this going tonight, so any help you have would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I got it going.  It was a thin wire from the pos battery terminal that was furnt through.

  I would defiantely put a 30 amp fuse in line,and not just wire.You may only need a 20 but It needs to be there to prevent a possibly serious problem if a short or some such develops.
