Has anyone cut the ends loose from the front axle housing to adjust for the differential angle for a high lift suspension
I am guessing that I can just grind this weld and knock the ends off then re-weld so my steering angle is plumb when i tip the differential up to connect the driveshaft
Anybody do this one yet??

I have done just what you want to do I use a angle finder to to make sure i put it back like it was  worked great

It seems like alot of work but I only want to do this thing once and do it right.
Did you just grind the welds to remove the housing ends??
These axles are going under my 2004 Yamaha Rhino. It will have the strength of the Samuri and the agility of the rhino not to mention weighing only 1300#. I should be able to run 33" Boggers as it will be turning 7.46:1 gear ratio.

The only thing that I didn't like about the Rhino was the spool rear end and the brittle independant suspension.
 I will be able to run what ever gear ratio that I want and eliminate the weak cv axles that my 30" tires keep twisting apart.
The rhino is light and powerful and when i am done it will also be much less likely to break.
Check out the article in Peterson's Offroad comparing the Rhino and the Samuri side byside...they are very close in capabilities....now my rhino will have the best of both worlds

sounds like a cool rig  if you have the welding skills (sounds likeyou do )  I set the axle on some level stands did some measuring  I put some refrence marks w/ a die grinder on the housing & ball area& ground the weld & used a cut off blade on my grinder got em loose & rolled them back & welded them up after tacking & measuring it really wasnt that much work

where are you getting that low of a gear??

search on google for cut and turn. the yota guys do it all the time and its basically the same axle only smaller.

The Samuri axles have 3.73:1 and my homemade gear box will double that with a 2:1 ratio.
My Rhino t case has a high/low so this thing should be a real good crawler in high and a tractor in low.
I could go even lower but I don't want to loose all of my cuising speed.
If I can figure out how to build it I'll make a 2 speed gear box with a good highway gear for 2 wheel only.
Here is a picture of it right after I installed the 89 Tracker rear end. I didn't like it so it all came out and I went with Samuri front and rear to get rid of the front independant from the Tracker.
 I am chopping the Samuri housings down 7" front and back to center the differential and keep the track a little closer to stock for narrow trails.
As it sits right now I have 22" clearence from the underside of the floor to the ground.I may increase that a little depending on how my coil over suspension works out and I also want to run 33"Boggers. I'm waiting on my axles from Moser right now....I hate waiting
