New mods installed, RRO vs Calmini
« on: November 02, 2004, 09:27:19 AM »
Well, the last couple of days I've spent in the secret underground lab(my garage) installing some goodies. First to come in and get put on was the Calmini header. I ordered it last monday and had it friday! nice instructions and tech support, too. My cat was a little different from standard (two pipes into the front end of it), so I couldn't adapt the header into it. In it's place I put in a flexible pipe section until I can get a high flow cat. This way if it takes a hit offroad, it wont do as much damage. The install went well and the sound and smoothness is great. I can even notice a little more power, pulling hills in 4th that have needed 3rd before.

The next install was today. I added a pair of RRO front coil spacers to bring the front end back up after adding a heavy bumper, skidplate and winch up there. While I had the struts loose, I went ahead and did the strut mount flip as well. It went well and the Tracker is much closer to level now, if anything, it's a touch high up front now. I can't wait to try it out, but need to hit the alignment shop soon. Camber looks to be out a little.

Now a little beef I have. 3 1/2 weeks ago I ordered and paid for the coils spacers from RRO and according to their website, they were supposed to be 1 1/8" tall. They finally showed up this morning in a box with some newspaper stuffed in as a filler and nothing else. No directions, no receipt, nothing! and to top it all off, they only measure 7/8" tall!!! >:( When I emailed them about the height difference, they told me their spacers are 1 1/8" tall and that these might be for a different vehicle. the way I would know for sure is if they didn't fit. Well they fit just fine, but they are definately NOT as tall as advertised! I'm not impressed at all.

Now for Calmini: I ordered the header monday and had it friday all the way from california. Included in the box were directions, gaskets, bolts, a catalog, a sticker and an invoice! I had a couple questions about the instructions before I started, so I called the 800 number and got all the help I needed. I am very impressed by Calmini's customer service and shipping, as well as the quality of the product, I just wish their stuff wasn't so expensive! LOL! ;)

Anyways, enough ranting. I'll get pics next time I see the sun. I finished the install tonight in the dark (power failure due to rain...)
Had a cool sig pic till I changed the text... sigh...

Calmini Header is on my to-do list. Is theirs Smog legal?

NIce to know about those spacers, I was just about to order a set for my 4dr rear and put the 3/4 up front.
Maybe they shrink when shipped ;)

I wonder if the 7/8" is the spacer for the front and they use 1 1/8" for the back. The location of the coil springs on the control arms will give more lift than the thickness of the spacer. Maybe it's like this to evenly raise the vehicle if spacers are installed in front and back :-/

I have both front and back RRO coil spacers, and they are exactly the same height, and less than advertized for sure. The only difference they have is their inner diameter, as the front bumpstops are different than the rear ones. Zig is right about the uneven raise, but the difference is actually very small.
