Tracker with water in the rear
« on: January 22, 2008, 06:19:56 PM »
Have a 95 Tracker and when I bought it the rear was full of milky gear oil. Drained it and later put in a different center section because of noise. Housing was all clean inside so drove it for several months and milky gear oil again. Drained two more times and tonight it's actually frozen inside the drain plug. This rear is like a sponge! It has new axle seals and the hose up to the left tail light looks good. I have only been driving it on the street. Anybody run into this before?????

Did you check the pinion seal? What about the center gasket?

Seeing as how the diff. has aleready been swapped, the seal and gasket goop should be better on the second diff. if it was bad on the first.

Check for a crack or hole that you may have missed. And make sure the axle tubes are clean as well as the center section of the housing.

Another thing to check is the little doo-hickey on the end of the breather tube. Heck check both that thing and the hose to make sure they are not plugged.

Definitely check out that breather & tube -- My '82 toyota pickup did the exact same thing... Kept sucking water in no matter what until I put in a new one.

Not sure what it's like on a kick, but it was a $2 screw-out, screw-in fix on the toy.

As an alternative to the breather thing you can just run your breather tube up somewhere out of the way and put a filter on top.  Most of the Sammy's in my club actually run them up into the engine compartment.

How are you sucking water in driving on road only ? Or did I miss something.
