Sounds similar, feels like motor/tranny, not the whole rig like tires out of balance.

Just ordered the tranny and transfer case mounts from Hawk, should have them in a few day, we'll see if it takes care of it.

Motor mounts have some play but seem OK.  Last motor mount I broke was in a Mustang, the motor torqued up and cut the upper radiator hose in half  >:(

well the tracker doesn't quite have THAT level of torque either :)

This is probably irrelevant, but ill just share....

I had a bad vibration, i first thought it might be the mounts but as I went under my tracker, I noticed that the U joint was out of the place, and fixed it.  No more vibration.

Just a little food for thought for you, look down at the front of the engine while it is running in neutral and look at the pulley on the crankshaft. Does it look like it might be wobbling? You might have the infamous bad crank key-way. That can cause so many problems to look like they are to blame when in reality that is all that is wrong.

Thanks for the additional ideas

u-joints look good, no visible problem in them.  Received the tranny and t-case mounts from Hawk, although between a few days of snow and now rain, haven't had a chance to install them.

I'll check the crank pulley today, that sounds consistent with an engine rpm verses mph vibration.

Sometimes the u joints look good but are siezing up. That would cause a vibration also. I would recommend actually removing the drive shaft and moving the joint around by hand to see if it is free!

Put the tranny mount in, no change.
Went ahead and replaced the rear u-joint, no change
Re-phased the driveshaft, now vibration is only at around 3000 rpm and 55 mph.

I did notice the slip yoke has .015-.025 of movement, measured at the u-joint ear.  If I slide it all the way in, about an additional 1" from it's normal position, there is no movement.  Is this normal?  I can't find a spec for this in the service manual.

I dont know if this could be a factor for you or not but I bought a 66 F100 years ago and the previous owner had replaced the engine. He put an engine out of an automatic in it and did not put the flywheel from the standard back in and it vibrated like hell at higher RPMs. I changed the flywheel back to a standard and it was like new again.    Just a point tgo ponder.

Hmmm, can't hurt to check the engine and tranny numbers against the VIN.

Correct me if i am wrong. But aren't a manual and auto flywheel totally different? Auto has no face on it?

After having a few shops check it out, the current theory is a worn pilot bushing and/or clutch hub.  Looks like new clutch time.

Does anyone know what the tranny/t-case combo weighs and where the balance point is for it?  Can't find a tranny jack for rent so I'll have to weld up a plate of some sort for my floor jack.

Tranny 101!! there's no flywheel in a automatic, it's a torque converter...just to let you know!!
