Project: Zuburban (honor) build ...
« on: February 06, 2008, 03:20:30 AM »
I have started on a project build in honor of my fallen .........best friend ..... Art Lilley

This is a major build that consists of a stretched tin top with 4 doors. The 2nd set of doors will be suicide and also narrowed down. The frame has already been stretched 22" in the middle and the 2nd set of doors cut down.

Progress:
Yesterday I just cut the drivers side door frame out of the donor tin top. After work today I plan to cut the passenger side out..

I will have A LOT of pics later on today...........

Zuburban,
This is one of the coolest Samurai projects I've ever seen. Please keep us posted as to your progress.

Not much done today...got home a little late.

Sorry ....no new pics either LOL!!

At this point I have both door frames cut out of the donor tin top. I also have the rear of the PROJECT tin top off of the frame so I can  size up the donor door frames.

Question though.......... would it be better for me to take the bodies off of the frame and put them on jack stands or leave them on the frame?

Starting tomorrow and through the weekend ........ I will be trying to figure out how I am going to place the donor door frames. I will have to do small tack welds just to hold it up there and then step back to see if the slope of the roof will be right.

Are you asking about the stitching together?

I'd do the work off frame, but first  ... Position the body bits on the stretched frame and tack in some bracing to hold them square (e.g. some diagonals between floor and opposite roof). Then tack the bracing together to hold the spacing front and rear at the correct distance (i.e. square to each other and to the frame). Now you can get the frame outta the way and have room to get the various pieces integrated.

I'm also not entirely clear the various bits you're using ... is this correct?
1) 4dr from B-pillar forward
2) 2dr tintop from B-pillar rearward
3) added 22" made up from remaining bits of the 4dr
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy it.

Well.........I have reached a crossroad and I will be making a decision tomorrow on if I want to continue trying to put the 2nd set of doors in or just stretch the body and the rear side windows.

long story.........don't want to talk about it

more tomorrow
