« on: October 27, 2004, 07:24:08 AM »
if I lift my vitara/tracker/sidekick with a 3" bodylift, what do I have do to of other mods to get it work? I`ve heard that it is a limit in 2" to dont do anything else... ???

I`ve heard i need to modify the steering and the transmit shifter.

Is there someone out there who got some expirience about this subject?

with the 3" lift u do have to modify the transfer case shifter and the steering linkage but the kit comes with the transfercase extension just take it to a welding shop and they can weld it together and reinstall the shifter. the steering linkage can be purchased at
rocky-road.com. the 2" is much simpler no mods required. however if it were me i would build my own body lift 4 or 5 inch lift.
4 1/2 body
Coil spacers
cheap but effective

4 inch body lift is a bit much, just my opinion. With the 3 inch body lift the transfercase does have to have the extension welded on. If you have a manual transmission you can bend the shifter so it works properly or weld an extension on it. The automatic transmission however requires no modification to the shifter as it is cable actuated. As for the steering it depends on what year your vehicle is, I don't remember which ones have to be extended and which ones don't. mine is a 1995 and i didn't have to extend it just loosen it and pull it apart a little and retighten. The rocky road steering extension is for the 99+ model tracker and vitara. Also with the 3 inch body lift the gas filler needs to be extended and the brake prportioning vave moved a little in order to remove pressure from the rubber lines. Hope this helps.

You can bend both shifters, but they work infinitely better when extended.
