I think I know what you are asking.... The shifter (the long tapered part) looks to be crimped on to the lower part that has the ball joint. This is all one unit. I just removed my transmission and discovered that the shifter bolt pin was broken in half. It still operated just fine but was a disaster waiting to happen. The original plastic bushing was looking well used (175,000 miles) with a few chips missing off the upper rim.....I am still waiting for the new replacement parts to arrive. My bushing lifted out with the shifter it was stuck to the ball with grease.
