Reverse light switch????

I have a 97 sidekick and i want to change the switch on the tranny, does anyone had done it before?? and where i can get it, dealer or autopart store and is it expensible??

it's pretty easy to do , it just screws out.. with the help of a wrench..and one wire if i remember correctly..part is cheap also even cheaper from pick and pull..

If you can get your hands in there, it's a piece of cake.  You could try a standard auto parts store.  I sold a few when i worked for Schuck's Auto and Advanced.

One from a junkyard would probably work too.

Sometimes the wires can get messed up, and it's not necessarily the switch.  Make sure you check out a few things before you just replace it.

the only way to turn them on is if i hold the shifter down in reverse!

Yup, sounds like the switch is dead, the wire on mine had coroded till it broke off. like $30 from the dealer.

I had to change mine to, the hardest part was getting the connector pluged in again. I used a short(5" long) adjustable wrench, and I unplugged it from above. You can see it if you look from the drivers side, looking down on the tranni, looking between the firewall and the exhaust manifold. I could just reach my arm in there to unplug it with one hand, then I used the wrench from below, drivers side. Try to clean off any grease before you take it out so you don't get dirt falling in the hole.
