What year crown vic shock?
« on: February 18, 2008, 08:52:46 PM »
I'm putting in 2"spring spacers on my 95 tracker.   On the rear what year crown vic shocks do I want to get?Is there one brand better than the other for this or is there a better option than the crown vic shock?
Thanks!

The 91 Crown Vic shocks are the cheapest, and they're 1.5" longer extended, you can make this 2" by adding a .5" thick nut as a spacer on the top mounting stud before you put on the first bushing/washer. There are others, like the 99 F150 shocks for 3" longer, but they're more expensive. You want to get a light duty shock.

they're all the same if i recall correctly...  the parts guy can tell you if the part #'s differ...  don't buy the police interceptor version.  get longer shocks then the crown vics... i use 95 mustang rear shocks, perfect mounting points and don't need any extra hardward for the bottom bolt.  i picked 95 because i used to own a 95 mustang...  anyway, they are about 3inches longer than stock, maybe more.....

I've read that a front strut from an 89-ish Colt wagon was 1.5" longer than the Trackick strut, but all parts stores around here didn't have one in stock for me to compare them. I'm sure there is one, but it just hasn't been discovered yet. Personally, for basic off road use, I think the Trackick struts are fine besides the valving, there is 2" of travel(up travel) in the strut that isn't being used in a stock setup so adding a strut spacer makes some of that usable.

Here the Crown vics are $20  the ford f150s are $32 is the extra 1" over the 2" Crown vic shocks worth it? And do I haver to do anything special to get the CV or mustang shock to fit?

Flipping the mount is another way to extend it.

the crown vic will require a 'sleeve' to be inserted into the bushing so the bolt fits in properly, with the 95 mustang shocks i bought (munroe i think) i did not need anything, the shocks fit perfectly.  you may want to double check on the length of the f150's, i thought they were longer compressed and moer than 3inches longer than stock when extended.
