Crossmember Question
« on: February 26, 2008, 04:02:16 PM »
Is there a difference between the 95 and 96 tracker crossmembers?   I have been told that the 96 through 98 are completly different than the older models.

I know that there are two types of crossmember. The earlier one is fairly flat, the later one is a pretty much a 'U' section and seems to be much more susceptible to damage. I don't know what years have which though or if theres any reason why they couldn't interchange. Post 1998 models (not sold in the US) have the exhaust hanger on the crossmember too.

I have a 94 tracker and it has the u shape.  I remember the first time I saw it I thought "WTF? What kind of moron bends out the support downward twords the ground on a 4X4?".  I know it strengthens it alot but it also seems like it is a kick me sign for hanging up underneath.
