Hey I was wanting to know what all is in the 2wd low kit? Can it be copied?

Sure, as long as you do your
own engineering.  

The kit allows the 4x4 selector
to enguage the 2-4 wheel shaft
after you shift into low range.

(it's a second notch in the shaft)

i dont get what the point of 2wd low is..cant u just put it in 4wd low and leave teh front hubs unlocked??

Yeah you can but when you come to an obstacle you have to stop and get out and lock the hubs. With the 2wd low all you have to do is shift the transfer.

It is 2 replacment shift rods with additional notches to allow  the lever shift to 2 low. I dont think it would be very easy to copy unless you were a precision machinist. I have had a problem with it jumping out of 4 lo to 2 lo and locking the lever between gears. Then you have to take the lever out and re allign the rod to re install. I have been using a bungie cord to keep the lever pulled to the pass side while using low range. Then if it jumps out it can be shifted back it without taking anything apart. Oddly enough with the bungie on the lever it almost never jumps out. I would still recommend the 2 low kit. I use 2 low all the time.

Mike71 Their are many reasons for 2 lo. One is for tight turns. When you need to make a sharp turn in 4wd the front tends to plow a bit. If you click into 2lo then you can turn sharper and without stressing frontend components.   I generally run 2 lo untill I get to my obstical then I click into 4wd. Also for jumping. You should always jump in 2wd. It gets better lift in the front and doesnt stress the front. Its really nice to be able to have that kind of control without jumping out all the time to unlock the hubs.

An ARB in the front is another way to go.

I leave my front end unlocked untill I hit a hard obsticle.  So with an open diff (unlocked) it stears just fine.

It still turns sharper in 2lo. Also ARB will not assist in jumping. Another benifit is being able to get on an obstical and power only the rear wheels to slide them. For instance being on a sidehill, spin only the rear tires while rideing the brakes a little, will slide the rig downhill

Im not bashing ARB but its not the same.

I agree with Mike.  I use my 2wd low all the time when wheeling.  I run a lock rite locker in the front and rear.  In 4wd It don't turn.  pop it into 2wd and it turns.  It also helps with the armstrong power steering setup I have.  I keep telling myself I gotta get that fixed.

BTW I am running the petroworks GRS2 and the 2wd lo kit they offer.  It has been workin' fine for me.

I can see why it would be better to be in 2wd for jumping, but 2wd low? Wouldn't 2wd Hi be better?

With 33's 2-hi is just about useless off road. I can use 1st and occasionally 2nd gear. If I had 2 low, I could use all 5 gears off road.

Yea, I'm running 5.83's.

I can run off road in high range but it beats the hell out of you doing it. All of the trails around here are riddled with rocks. Your lucky to go 100 feet without hitting a patch of rocks that you need to slow down for. And hit a hill, you either have to bounce your rig off of rocks or drop it into low range. Alot of the old logging trails could be done in 2 low with a locker, but 2 hi is rough.
