Problem with SAMMY
« on: October 23, 2004, 06:18:57 AM »
I replaced the headgasket and did nothing more and now my samurai wont start, it will turn over but will not crank up. I fried a ground from the distributer, so i grounded the block to the frame with a fatty battery cable.

Any Ideas?

sounds like your ground cable could still be bad or dirty :-/ ,   your either not getting fuel, your timing and or cam is off, or no spark, start there and let us know! also make sure that you put the headgasket on right or you will fry the cam and the head! (don't cover the oil hole up if it only has one some have two now) you should be able to get it if you can change a head.

well i put a giant ground cable on, i used a battery cable. I havent worked on it today, but i was leaning towards the lack of gas due to the fact that the fuel line drained a little but when i took the head off. But i will try the other things you said also if fuel is not the problem.

1: must have dist ground hooked up
2: if you turned the cam or the engine with the head off and then lined up the timing marks you could be 180% out of time. it'll turn over but not fire.
3: (guilty of this one) remember to plug the coil wire back up. spent 30mins retiming the darn thing once just to have a friend walk by and say " where's this wire go"

I'd definitely check the timing.

How did you fry the ground?  Could you have blown a fuse?

You fry the small ground by having a bad BIG ground  :'(
