brake trouble
« on: March 02, 2008, 03:27:40 AM »
Help!!! My name is Jim, I'm in Canada. I have a 91 zuk, Ever since I put an 89 carburated motor in it the brakes keep building pressure. I've already changed the master cylinder, booster , all calipers and wheel cylinders with no success. The strangest part is if you shut it off while moving, it back fires then releases. At my wits end with this one, thought I might find fresh insight here.Any ideas will be extremely appreciated!!!
Thanx Jim

By building pressure, what exactly do you mean.  Is the brake pedal hard as a rock or are you saying that the brakes are dragging.  Add a little more detail and I may be able to help.  Was your last engine carburated or fuel injected.  Is the new engine stock or does it have a wild cam?

I am thinking that he is saying that it keeps bleeding vacuum and is possibly getting a hard pedal.  Maybe the engine is making enough vacuum.  He needs to answer my questions from above as to what the real problem is.

Yes it's building pressure , and yes the peddle gets hard, no fancy cam in it it's completely stock other than the Hyundai carb. And if you shut it off while moving it literally shoots a flame a foot out the tail pipe b4 they release. Any ideas are appreciated.
Thanx Jim

stock cam , brake peddle is hard+ brakes are sticking, the strange thing is it doesn't do it all the time

If you fix the brakes will you lose the flames out the tail pipe?

[/quot Yup, they're not really that cool when accompanied by the big bang anyway.

I have seen aftermarket kits for "flame throwers".
Well good luck on the fix!!!

Have you checked the vacuum that the engine is producing when the concern is occuring?

When they get hot and stick, pop the hood and loosen the two nuts on the master cylinder and pull it forward a little and see if the brakes release.
