Hate to break it to you, but that rate is about right.  It's not a small or easy job by any stretch.

I actually mis calculated the prices for all 3 chains and tensioners/ labor its going to be $1,600 for just the main chain and tensioner/labor its closer to $1,300.  I can get all the 3 chains and tensioners directly from GM for around $350 if I get them from the part department at the dealer its $600.   

try getting your parts from suzuki, i have found that the parts are often significantly less the few times i've had to purchase new parts.

Definately shop around.  Parts prices between GM and Suzuki DO vary widely.  Also check out the parts dinosaur.  They carry parts for the 2 Liter engine.

not everyone says the tensioners need replacement.  Mine original ans still fine.  SGP filters and 5w30 as the Suzuki DSM recommended.  Take that advice after you go thru what will become a nightmare of a repair.

Replace all tensioners and chains while you are in there.  Is the partsdinosaur tensioners the same as the most recent revised part as Suzuki?  I know the tensioner designed changed several times.

mine was making a racket and i thought i was up for the $$$$ but i changed to Castrol magnatec and now i cant hear the chain at all

The timing chains kit that you reference includes the only hydraulic tensioner that is noted as a part of this system.  If there are any other tensioners, I do not have  a reference to them from any of my suppliers.   More questions, just hit the reply button and ask and . . . . .

The dealer i bought the car from is going to warranty, the leaking timing chain cover, and said he would install the timing chains for free. I just don't know what all to have replaced at this point I am getting conflicting statements from different people. Any help would be helpful thanks.

Please provide all of us some feedback on the quality of the parts you receive from the parts dinosaur.  I spent several hours going thru his web one evening and I think he is the real deal and gives a shit about providing quality at a reasonable price.

Also, for the record, sometimes Chevy parts are cheaper than the Suzuki parts as well.  I bought a stearing gear box for my 94 Sidekick from a Chevy dealership.  Chevy was asking $900 for theirs...  Suzuki was asking $1200 for the same part.   i went with the chevy part.  Of course it fit and worked fine.  I could have bought a used one... but the one I replaced only had around 60K on it as i recall.  Didn't want to have to do it again 10K later.
