I'm trying to find a solution for more amperage.  I have an '02 Vitara 4 door 4 cyl. 2.0 and am trying to find a way to get over 100amps from my charging system.  Is there a high output alternator out there for this model or is there a kit available to adapt a different alternator?

I have a 185 amp in my GV.  Not a direct bolt in, but damn close.  Got it from, umm, I forgot.  Ace Alternator, that's it.  The ones who build alts for Premier Power Welders.

I'm dropping off my Sidekick 55amp alt to Axcel in Schenectady, NY on Friday.  They are building it to 120amps.  Will let you know how it goes, and they do ship.

Ok, so I'm looking at a 100amp 1 wire GM alternator from JC Whitney.  They're saying on the website that this can be mounted in any vehicle without difficulty.  2 questions:

1.  Will a 1 wire alternator work in an '02 4cyl Vitara?

2.  Will it bolt directly in or will I need to fabricate a custom bracket?

1. While a 1-wire will probably work, you will not have a way to make your charge indicator work so it will light up when something goes wrong.  Also, the alternator will be using it's output line to sense the charge requirements rather than an independent connection to the electrical system.

2. You will need to fab a bracket to make it work.  I am not sure if anyone is marketing a bracket for a GM 10SI or 12SI to install on a 1.6 (G16) Suzuki engine yet.  Such a bracket exists for the 1.3 G13 engine...  That bracket MAY work on a 1.6, but I don't know.

Thanks for the responses.  I pretty much have all the knowledge I need.  The only thing I haven't been able to find is a custom bracket for installing a GM alternator on the 2.0 litre engine.  I guess I will have to try my hand at fabricating...
