Sidekick brake dummy light / rear antilock
« on: March 24, 2008, 07:26:11 AM »
Hey guys!  Ok after replacing my master cyclinder with sensors with no results my brake light in the dash is still lit.  It brightens when the ebrake is applied.  With a little searching through a haynes manual they made a brief mention of rear wheel antilock brakes.  This struck a bell as when I was replacing the rusted metal in the rear I noticed a broken wire that ran into the rear diff.  I resoldered this back together but the wire was really corroded.  Obviously this is for that rear antilock and probably the actual cause of the brake light.  My question is does this wire power the antilocks or is this sensor return (I assume this is the case).  Also I will probably try a resplice once it warms up outside but if this fails does anyone know if you can toss in a resistor to turn the light off?  The brakes work fine (I assume the antilock is disabled).  What do you think?

the wire is simply a sensor.

I believe if you un hook the black RWAL box under the dash (on the firewall behind the steering column), then the RWAL won't light up the indicator (but the e-brake and fluid level sensors still work).
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy it.

Good call.  Unhooked the connector at the black box and the light shut off.  Ebrake light still works fine.  Thanks!
