Grand Vitara front diff question
« on: April 10, 2008, 10:11:56 PM »
Does anyone run the the Calmini Anvil front housing in there 99 up tracker or Grand Vitara. I'm thinking about getting this. I know I could purchase the steel front housing, but I figured this would also come with the 3" drop brackets built in....and it looks cool.

Looks nice.  I like the simplicty of only having one type of axle shaft.  The $630 price is a bit high, considering what an XL7 axle could cost at a wreckers.

Have you done the shift-on-the-fly removal??  In a previous post you mentioned clunking sounds from the front diff.  If you've solved that problem then go for it. If not you may end up like me looking for any front diff that works and fits (If I find an XL7 diff with the 5.13 gearing I'm going to grap the axle to).

Looks nice though.  :D
99 2dr Tracker, 33" tires stuffed in, home made roof rack.

To my knowledge, the Anvil doesn't fit the GV, as they have different upper mounting locations.  But a welder and extra steel can fix that.

Regarding the mounting, why wouldn't it fit? I can drop a sidekick front diff into my 99 tracker and this is built for a sidekick so it should be the same mounts...shouldn't it.

I did figure out the clunking. I got underneath and discovered that the diff mount at the rear of the unit was broken. dud that thing broke from me spinning in snow. WEEEK. Up in Vancouver I can't find a steel front diff for less then $350.00. I just figured with this unit, get even more strength plus the drop brackets built in.

The axle is the same, the mounting brackets are different between Kicks and GVs.  It won't work unless you fab new mounts and weld them in.  You can call Calmini and they will tell you the same.  Trust me, if it did fit, it would have been in my GV by now, and Calmini would be offering for sale.

Perfect thanks. I just discovered that both my OME struts are blown. That is the second pair in two years. I have pretty much decided that it's solid axle time. I'm tired of putting band-aids on the problem. Time for major surgery.

Wow, and they are pretty pricey to be crapping out that early.
