I just made new bumpers for my samurai and installed the oval stop/turn/tail lights.  I used the converter module as per Ack's Faq article and here is my problem.  All lights work ok but when I turn on hazards only the front lights flash.  Also when signals are working and I step on brake the signals go faster.  Samurai was in pieces when I acquired it so not sure if they worked before or not.  Could it be as simple as the flasher or is it something bigger.  And are regular bulbs not led's .  Thanks for the help.

Did you switch over to a two light system in the rear, where you brake lights and rear turn signals are in the same trailer light?  If so what is happening is when you step on the brakes the turn signals are turned off and the brake lights come on.  This lowers the resistance and your blinkers speed up, thinking that your rear turn signal light bulb has gone out.

Mine do the same thing. The way to fix it is get get a powered trailer light box instead of the cheap one you are using.  This way it will be smart enough to keep the turn signal blinking even if your brakes are on.

Not sure about the hazards though.  I'm not sure I even have the switch any more...

one double filament bulb acts as stop/turn/tail.  Seperate light for back-up.  will look into powered box as you suggest.  thanks.

Yep, same setup I have.  But I just live with the fact that my turn signals don't work right when I'm stepping on the brakes.  Benefit of a trailer queen.    Another alternative is to just get a third light to use as a turn signal.

So I found that if I hook a testlight up to ground and insert the probe into the stop light wire going into the converter box the rear hazard flashers will work.  But if I ground this wire permanently I'm sure it will screw up my stop lights.  Could the converter box be the problem?

So I got the powered converter box as was suggested and presto, everything works.  The sigals blink faster than usual, but I can live with that.  Thanks for all the help. Norm

I'm glad that fixed it. 

The reason they probably blink faster now is a resistance change in your light bulbs compared to stock.  If you wanted to get fancy, try putting a small resister in line with your blinker.  It may fix the problem.

I tried a heavy duty flasher but it kept blowing the fuse.  Will stick with what works.  Thanks for all the help.  Norm
