making a snorkel!!!
« on: April 15, 2008, 03:33:57 PM »
hi I'm new here my name is bob live in south jersey and have a 88 Sammie. i just bought her she has a calmini body lift and a calmini suspension lift i think its a 5" lift due to the gap with 31s on it. not new to this world i had a 74 Chevy c10 stepside with a heads cam intake 350 turbo400 trans with a shift kit floating transfer case with 1ton axles  and 14" of lift and 44's

i wanna build a snorkel but not sure what size PVC pipe i should use i was thinking 2 1/2" but not really sure can anyone help me? I'm going to run a airfilter up top if that helps thanks
Bob

Wow, I just did several searches and found it really unhelpful.  Maybe we should just answer questions or refrain from snide comments.
I used to be indecisive but now, I'm not so sure.

Check this thread (it didn't come up on the search but I knew it was there because I read it not too long ago)

if you go to the build diaries theres snorkel info

but i guess youre the expert with the 30 posts under your belt and the taste of sketchers in your mouth

edit:
btw... providing a link isnt classified as "snide"
but more importantly I did a search and it came up on the first page

So let me get this straight ... one's automotive expertise is related to the number of internet posts made.  WTF are sketchers and I am rather sure I have never had any in my mouth.
Either we don't use the same kind of logic at all or you are mixing your metaphors (or that was another snide comment.)

I posted a link and you were/are being a smartass.

Yeah, sorry!  BTW, I am also of dubious stature and live on a little (some say small) island but my son would kill me if I sold our only Kick!

So, I am also thinking about a snorkel (my last truck had one but that was 6" pvc to feed a propane injected 6.2 diesel ... )

I know that my Sidekick is different than the Sami but I think the Kick feeds the air filter from inside the driver side fender.  I am going to pull off the fender and stick 2" pvc in there that leads to that funny little non-functional piece of tin behind the hood and hopefully have it pop up through there before it runs up the pillar so that it is a little less likely to get ripped off by brush.  From previous experience I really recommend trying to route the snorkel behind the fender as much as possible.  That said, I find it a lot easier to avoid things in a Sidekick than a Suburban :)
I used to be indecisive but now, I'm not so sure.

Everybody's 'Ludes perscription run out today? So my 2cents on a snorkle... Use the factory filter location and run the feed tube to the fender. Having the filter under hood instead of up top means it only filters the air entering the engine not every passing breeze.          NMc
