rear ball joint on A arm? (options)
« on: June 11, 2005, 09:43:16 PM »
hi all, after cutting and grinding the rear end of my vit, i noticed that the ball joint on top of the diff has a fair bit of play in it.

if you rock the vit forward and back, or up and down, you can visually see the play in it, not to mention the sound it makes.

i did notice it making a noise a while a go, but its worse now.

so what do i do? i can probably say that its the lift, and flex thats caused it to wear out the way it has.

so what can i do? just replace the ball joint with the oem one, and make up a spacer?

or should i make a new arm up like the calmini one with a heim joint? i heard the heim joints arent that great? and i'm also not sure if i can get one made up in short time, or properly in that case.

thanks.
Steve

I would replace it with a stock one. The only ones Ive seen go bad were from having too much down travel. Be sure that the shocks are topping out before the upper ball socket tops out.

Make a new arm or fab up a spacer, what ever you do get it fixed soon.
That ball joint is critical to keeping your tires properly under your truck.
Loose that joint and you'll have an ugly mess on your hands!

Nice!
That's exactly what I was thinking to make for mine, but I've been hearing mixed things about heim joints not lasting long in my climate. I was thinking for me, some sort of stock bushing.
