tranny crossmember
« on: May 15, 2008, 12:30:33 AM »
i've searched...

Is it just me or is the tranny/Tcase crossmember on a kick a piece of junk,  it is constanly snagging things and is always getting bent up.  does anyone make a bulletproof one?  Or am i going to be the first person to make one?

No its not just you, without a skid plate it won't last very long. If you do make a heavy duty one then you'll need to reinforce or replace the mounts on the frame or you'll just bend them instead.

Im in the same boat.... My crossmember is trashed and I cant find a replacement anywhere.  I can find plenty of 95 and below    but never    96 and up.   Once I find a new crossmember then im making a skid plate for sure.

so the easy solution is the skid plate uh... so there really isn't a need for a better crossmember.

It works for me  ;D. It prevents the edge of the crossmember getting caught up and being pushed back (or forwards) which is the main cause of damage. It also spreads the force of any impact but I suspect that if you dropped it hard onto a big rock you could still bend the crossmember up a bit.
