Has anyone removed their rear-seat seatbelt towers?  I've got a 1992 2-Door and am going to be trying out a rear soft window/tonneau cover setup, but the seatbelt towers stick up half a foot and look stupid....

Are they a bolt-in thing, or welded?

i removed them from my '89 kick.
they do just bolt in- mabe some screws for some of the plastic dressing- i can't remember.
i agree - they do look stupid, but seat belts are a good thing if anybody's gonna be back there.
i took the back seat out for stowage room.

Removed them, no but installed them, yes. My current 2.0 soft top didn't have them and as I have a little girl that sits in the back I wanted the better retractable belts so I swapped them over. It's easy as but as you won't have the trim to suit you will have a hole at the top where the tower protruded.

Perfect -- Thanks guys!  Yeah, those rear seats are coming out for now, so the towers are just going to be in the way.  Good to know that they're bolt-in, so I can put them back if I need to.

You will need to fab up a cover for the for the fender though.  We removed them on my Dad's tracker and my cousin is fabbing up some diamond plate covers to replace the standard cardboard based ones, only a bit longer so it covers the area that is now open because of the seat belt tower removal.

I agree the tonneau cover looks silly with those seat belt towers sticking up.  I removed my back seat & seat belt towers.  Had the holes on the tonneau cover sewed over.  The hole left in the fender is nearly perfect for a 6x9 speaker!

Yeah I can kinda make out the handle now. Back to the thread I pulled mine out and cut a stainless plate to cover the hole. I've wanted to put some 6x9s in there but haven't had time. The zuk looks so much better without those when the top is off.

I left the holes open on my kick. i had intentions of covering them up, but I use them to store stuff all the time. Crap I pick up on the trail, garbage, air hose, parts that get ripped off wheeling etc.. I think it would be cool to make covers with little doors to shove shit in these holes..  ahhh so many ideas sooo little time!

Love that 6x9 speaker idea LilRed -- I've got a pair in small speaker boxes behind the driver/passenger seat, but they're in the way.  It rained all weekend so I didn't get a chance to do anything yet, but I should be home again by Friday.
