Installing LockRight Locker
« on: June 03, 2008, 04:10:59 PM »
Bought a LockRight Locker and a set of 5.13 differentials.
The Installation Manual says that "The third member itself can be disassembled and re-assembled without changing the ring and pinion settings if you are careful."

Was going to give this a try, but wanted to see if anyone has done this the instructions seem do-able.  I have a down loaded copy of the service manual, but it doe's not have the torque settings for the adjuster locks and the ring gear bolts and cap bolts.

Any input, word of warning, torque settings???
Thanks.

i just recently did this.
you might want to refer to acks faq as he has good photos and a similar approach as the included instructions.
i also did not have torque settings, but found some for a later model that seemed reasonable.
i think '94 tracker:
ring gear- 90 N-m, 65 ft/lb
bearing cap- 100 N-m, 72 ft/lb
lock plate- note two different torques in same literature- 33 N-m, 25 ft/lb
                                                                             - 14 N-m, 10 ft/lb
on the lock plate bolts, i did the 10 ft/lb so i didn't snap them.

2 things- putting that 3rd back in when all gooped up w/ sealant was an ungainly affair that would have looked pretty funny, good luck.
           - my bearing preload seemed different- supplied instructions indicated tightening more than acks instructions-  ended up a little seat of the pants adjustment that so far seems ok.
1 more- i replaced my inner axle bearing seals- mabe unnecessary.
i have yet to really work it- gonna go fishing next month- but seems ok on my test drive.
why worry?

oh yeah- i put this in an '89 kick- what're you putting it in?
'89 kick w/little motor, still got pieces of jeff's pucks, stan's sticks into 4.24:1 tcase, 31x10.5x15's, rear lockrite, kick power steering, some radios(kj6esv), bmw seat, other changes just because. done on the cheap.

I just put one in not that long ago, if you follow the instructions it's very easy. Make sure you mark the adjusters before you take it apart. Other that that it's straight forward.

Thanks for the info, sounds like someone of my IQ can do this, hopefully so can I (hehe).

I have a '99 Tracker and have grown to hate my flawed Shift-On-The-Fly.  I'm swapping in a front and rear diff from a '98 Sidekick.  I'll be going from a 4.625 (I think) to a 5.125.  This seemed like the perfect time/excuse to put in a locker.  No rush to install into the 3rd, untill I'm ready for the swap.

I searched for other posts/info about this but did not see anything.  What/where is the 'ack faq' with pictures of this??

Thanks.  Looking forward to http://suzican.ca/ to test it out.  Gotta get started to make it for Canada Day.

www.acksfaq.com, i think.
some good info can be dug up here. i got those torque settings from his list of documents.
if i knew how i'd have pasted a link for you.
moderately intimidating, it kept me interested. got a better look at lots of stuff while i did it.
i think i'm pleased with the project.
