exhaust leat at manifold
« on: October 06, 2004, 11:35:59 AM »
On my 90 Tracker I have an exhaust leak where the down pipes meet the manifold.  The pipes feel solid, not rusted out.  When I put my hand in front of the clamp that holds the pipes to the manifold I feel exhaust coming out.  Is it likey that the claimp is just loose?  Can the gaskets wear out?  Or is there a rust hole I am not seeing in the down pipe?

Thanks,

It's a hole or missing bolts, there
is no clamp, just 3 nuts on the studs
that come out of the manifold, I have
one from the 89 Turbo Kick that has a
broken stud too, so you might have the
same problem

i think my leak is from a bad gasket i had a bad 02 so my exh mani. got glowing hot more then once before i finally changed the 02 i think that ate the seal up

2 of the bolts were loose enough that I could hand tighten them.  I tightened them, but the leak is still there.  Do I have to do something special to seat the downpipe?  If the bolts were that loose maybe it is not mating up flush with the manifold.

I bet the exhaust doughnut cracked or blew out so it is not sealing anymore.

My 90 Tracker has an occasional leak there, too. Just crank the nuts down and that should seat the pipes together. From what I recal, there is no actual separate gasket or donut at that junction, just a tension fit...
