Half shaft lower boot? How hard to find/replace?
« on: June 22, 2008, 09:34:59 PM »
Towed my new project home today... when I went to unhook it I found a ton of grease had shaken out of the boot.  I need to replace this wheel bearing anyway but was wondering how difficult this fix will be... I am learning... Thoughts? Thanks!

no worries about this.
looks light right side.
a boot kit should be available at most parts stores(includes grease and clamps) for mabe $20?
mabe get a basic manual while you're there too.
roughly:
remove wheel and support a-arm.
remove hub cap and clip on axle.
unbolt ball joint from a-arm, and swing strut and hub assembly off axle.
---i think there is enough brake line to leave caliper on. watch it. mabe pop axle out completely.
remove cv joint retaining clip, cv joint, slide old boot off.
---inspect inner boot. now is the time to do it if it's at all suspect.
reverse- reassemble.
memory isn't so hot anymore, and i may have missed something, but i did this in a couple of hours.
i was replacing the inner boot. i reused the outer one, but it had to come off first.
i think
