I think OUCH 194.87.... that's half of what I paid for my Geo! (OK I did get a good deal!) try autozone I know "cringe" but they have a similar style cone filter for 20 bucks and they have a some stainless tubes you can cut up to put the filter where you want.. I actualy just took the stock air box off and put it right on the end but that kind of makes a hot air intake because the cone filter is right over the exhaust manifold.  I did notice a diference in performance though..

I put a K&N cone filter on the intake and took the stock box off..  Kick did fine for regular driving but didnt like the slow off road heavy work driving.  I have since removed. Stock replacement K&N will probably do better. Just my 2c.

Like someone else said..I got a $20 cone filter at autozone and a short length of 3" exhaust pipe and a couple hose clamps.  I used the rubber snorkle thing from the stock intake and it locates the cone filter over the inner fender near the hole in the side where the stock intake used to pass through. (next to the brake booster)

It most defintely gave me a little power boost over the convoluted stock intake but at a price:  at idle it now sounds like someone shooting ping pong balls rapid fire through a plastic vaccuum cleaner hose.  (its a 89 sidekick TBI drivetrain in a 95 tracker body).  On the other hand, it sounds great when you floor it.  :o)

I havent noticed any heat problems while crawling along trails, but I am more likely to do that in my sami anyways.  (which has basically the same intake)

Similar setup here.  It's definitely noisier, but I don't know if I can say performance or MPG changed.  Then again, I already had a K&N filter in the stock housing.  That may be the best solution.  The flow is a little baffled (to help with sound I guess), but you may end up with cooler air charge and water is less of a problem.

Here's what I did, BTW (please don't laugh too hard, the duct tape is covering a heat reflecting material).  I don't know if it helps make the charge cooler, but it makes me feel better   :-/

I use a stock air box filter from K&N and I'm very happy with it.  Just cleaned a few weeks ago too.
