Alignment Help
« on: July 20, 2008, 09:02:20 AM »
??? Did a couple of searches regarding alignment and couldn't find the info I need. My tracker has about 3.5 in susp. lift, via Calmini coils with 1" spacer, modded control arms, dropped diff, OME struts with strut mounts flipped. It also has the Hagen front end mods as well , which not only widens the front track, but increases the castor as well. I've adjusted the alignment as best I could, doing camber first, to 0 degrees, and toe last. I used the best measuring devices I could come up with: magnetic degree gauge, 10 foot long straight edge, and various straight edge rulers.  It's real close,  but has an annoying characteristic : I'm constantly having to correct the steering as it goes down the road. Like I'm chasing the steering. I tried taking it to Pepboys for an alignment, but according to them, their machine only does " stock specs."  I'm trying to find a shop locally that has some experience with modified vehicles, but no luck so far. I'll keep looking, but in the mean time I'm looking for some advice on what steering adjustment what cause the Tracker to be so sensitive, and not want to " relax " when on center.

Forgot to mention reason I need to re do alignment: I installed new tie rod ends and ball joints and lubed all the pivot points on the control arms.

perhaps a caster problem? caster gives directional stability(wheel wants to center).
i think any alignment place can tell what the measurements are. they may feel limited in what is adjustable.
gotta find the shop where they will be interested in helping you figure how to make it work.

'89 kick w/little motor, still got pieces of jeff's pucks, stan's sticks into 4.24:1 tcase, 31x10.5x15's, rear lockrite, kick power steering, some radios(kj6esv), bmw seat, other changes just because. done on the cheap.

Thanks Rascott, I know the castor is not " correct " to stock measurments after doing the Hagon mods, but it used to drive very well. I guess now I got it outawack. I'll keep looking for a good shop that's willing, like you said.
