How to adjust valves on 16 Valve Engine.
« on: July 26, 2008, 07:36:54 PM »
Hey Fellow Zukheads.......
I have a "94" Sidekick 4x4 16 valve and wondered if anyone has ever adj. the valves on one of these things? Took off the valve cover and did not have the proper feeler gages. Is there a special feeler tool or something to adjust those devils. I have every tool Snap On makes but on luck.
I was told that I need Suzuki tool 09917-18210 is that so? If so where do I get one. Any help you can give me would greatly appreciated. Just remember: the older I get the faster I went.
All the best to you and yours  JB

You could just buy a single feeler and bend it if you like your snap on too much.

Hey MRfuelish .....
I understand what you are saying, but the fact is the adj. at the valve stem is recessed and I believe the follower centers on that "H"recess to keep the follower in-line with the cam. I don't have any feelers that are that narrow to get between the adjuster and the valve stem to make an adjustment. I  thought someone my have a trick feeler or trick way of doing the job. Has anyone out there every adj. valves on a 16 valve engine, I need advice. Thanks for any advice you may have....JB

I've adjusted mine several times, and used a standard feeler, just bent it to fit between the cam lobe and the follower.  There is a sequence to adjusting, and of course valves are adjusted closed. There is also an online sourse for the info, You would have to do a search here in their archives to find it. Try searching Valve adjustment here.
