Lockrite & Snow/Ice...
« on: July 28, 2008, 05:52:47 AM »
Who is running a "Lockrite" or any other locker setup in the rear of there Tracker/Sidekick? If you do have one, do you drive alot in the winter? Im kicking around the idea of getting one for the rear of my Tracker to be a little more capable offroad...however the winters up here in northern Ohio can get pretty nasty with the "lake effect" snow we get. I was wondering how these little Trackers do in the snow and if it will be worse or better if I throw a locker out back.

My GMC Sierra has Factory LSD's front and rear so I am used to the back of a vehicle being locked...however this is in a truck, not in a smaller vehicle like a Tracker.

Just looking for some opinions and realworld experience from everyone on if I should run this or not. Thanks!

I drove my automatic Bronco2 last winter with the Lockrite in and didn't have any problems. If your Tracker is a 5 speed it might take a bit of getting used to in the snow. The auto seems to "hide" the fact that there is a locker in the truck. You just need to adjust your driving style a bit and it will be all good.

I'm sure it will be fine, defiantly take a little bit of getting used to.
The rear-end might tend try and trade places with you if you decide to get on it a little bit to hard  ;)

If you're a cautious driver in snow / ice you'll be fine. If you like to drive hard in hazardous conditions, a lunchbox locker isn't for you. Spend the extra $$$ and get a ARB. I'm running an Aussie locker in my yota axles connected to an auto trans, and I never notice it's there. It's locked when it needs to be, and unlocked when it doesn't... it's like magic.
