question about connecting rods and couplings.

A guy asked me this question about some engine parts I'm selling and I don't know the answer so I'll post it here. Surely some of you guys know the answer.  Here it is:

"Do you know if the lower couplings and rods are punched to match, you have to keep the lower couplings and connecting rods together."

Is this critical? I thought the bearings did the job of mating the parts. If they are mixed, how do you match or does it matter? ??? ???

You should keep the two part of the rod together, but if your having the rods machined it doesn't mater because there resized

that's what I herd from the engine shops
