Went wheelin today: Pics
« on: September 19, 2004, 02:20:03 PM »
Well, I had to go test my new bumper out, so I went with a friend to Westco Highlands 4x4 club. Here are some pics from today:

Posed on a dirt pile:

An impossible climb, much steeper than it looks:

A new friend I met along the trails. Here he's stuck at the creek crossing:

Me sitting on a rock after I crossed the same stream, just ahead of where the blazer was stuck:

climbing out of a creek(the Blazer was stuck right behind where I'm sitting)

Backing up for a Second try at the boulder out of the creek, second time was a charm:

Still coming:

Following my new friends out of the woods:

Resting afterwards:

I had a blast and I can't beleive I made the stream crossing that the Blazer got stuck on! I can't wait to do more to my Tracker and get back to the woods! WOOHOO!!!
Had a cool sig pic till I changed the text... sigh...

sweet looks like you had fun  8)

I wish we could do river crossings up here.

Since most of the streams/rivers on Vancouver island are salmon bearing, they made it very illegal for any motor vehicles (cept boats) to cross them due to the lack of salmon these days.

its a  $1,000,000 fine if you are caught crossing a salmon bearing stream up here. (i kid you not) :o

Thats stupid. Boats 'may not harm' fish by running them over like a truck can, but what about the junk boats dump from their motors? That's no fun, no streams! We have a few that you can cross up here, but you have to watch the water levels for days to get a good crossing point.

Thanks all, I had a great time and did much better than I thought I would!

The tires are 215/75-R15 Dayton Timberline All Terrains. They do alright most of the time, but seem to pack up with mud when it starts to get sloppy. I'm going to be running these until after I lift it, then I'm thinking about switching to the Mud Terrain version which look just like BFG MT's. Except for the mud packing occasionally, I've been very happy and impressed by these tires. On hard dirt and rocks/roots they grip very well!

I've just installed a set of Dayton Timberline MT's on my -7. They are the 225/75-16 size, equating to 29"!!! $105 each +$18 for install, life, swap, etc. plus $45 off total at end. $615 for all 5. Pics in webshots.

I like the front skidplate. Those Dayton MTs are quite the bang for the buck. We sell them at my work. They roll down the freeway nice too.

Mike

BTW thanks for the pics.

Thanks, Mike! ;D I realized pretty quickly that the Tracker needed a skid once I started playing in the woods with it and finding out what it could do even in stock form. Mine extends from the bumper down to the front A-arm mounts then back to the cross member. The front A-arm mounts are now effectively trussed by the skidplate. From the dents and dings in it already, it has more than paid for the labor involved in making it by saving quite a few vital parts! Now I just gotta get to work on my rock rails before my doors wont open! LOL!

I'm saving up for a 2" suspension lift for it, as well as a set of Timberline MT's. I know that I can get 30x9.50" tires to fit on the stock rims, but is it really a wise idea to have 9.5" wide tires stuffed onto 5.5" wide rims? If it will work fine, then cool, but if not then I'll go for a set of 15x7 black rock crawlers...

From what I've ascertained, there are several people running 9.50" wide tires on stock Sidekick wheels. You should be fine.

Well, that would definately save me some money and let me get the setup together faster. Anyone else know if I can 9.5" wide tires on the stock 5.5" wide rims?

If they dont rub when you turn you should be fine. I think I would prefer 7s just for the look... Black of coarse ;D
