Few more noob questions
« on: September 09, 2008, 07:55:42 AM »
Hey dudes. I am just wondering if my gearing/tires size is normal. I am at just over 3000 rpm |removethispart|@ 60 mph in 5th gear with 205/70/R15 tires (which I think is the stock size?) I am just wondering if all this is normal as I am totally not used to revving so high. Ill be at 3500+ going 70 on the freeway!

Also I have found a little slide style switch hidden under my dash just to the right of the steering column where you could reach it easily if you knew it was there. The thing is it really looks like it was factory and I cant figure out what it does. I thought it would be a factory ingition kill switch since they have no tops but  ???

Those ratios sound about normal for a tracker / sidekick.  I cruise at 3500 on the highway all the time.  Won't hurt it a bit. ( I've got over 254,000 on my '93) still runs like new.

You didn't mention what vehicle you have but again if its a tracker / sidekick that switch under the dash resets the 'check engine' light.  Its programmed to come on at certain mileage intervals (every 50,000 I think).

At just a touch over 3000 I'm doing 60 mph, so you are right in line with stock.  When climbing good sized hills on the freeway I'll drop to 4th in order to keep my speed up and turn in the 4.5K range and the engine doesn't complain a bit.  I've shot over the pass turning 5000 or so in order to keep up with traffic before and the engine didn't miss a beat.  :)

Samurais have the reset switch too.

96 and up Tracker/Sidekicks do not however.  :)

I'm around 4000 rpm at 70 mph and if you flip that little switch, an imaginary beer will pop up between your legs. enjoy!

It is a 2 way switch, so there is no "regular" position.  If your CEL comes on because of a mileage interval, you flip the switch the opposite way to turn the CEL off.  If you flip the switch and the CEL doesn't go off, it means that there is something wrong that is causing the CEL to light.

im pretty sure (correct me if im wrong) but that switch on a sami is a check engine light override if you get sick of seeing that light just turn it off

The switch works the same on trackicks and samurais......if the CEL is on because of mileage, flip the switch to turn it off.......if the CEL is on because there is something wrong, then flipping the switch will not turn the CEL off.
