What locker do I need for 93 Tracker?
« on: September 26, 2008, 04:19:53 PM »
I called a popular off road part store, and  I asked for a Lock Rite locker for a 93 Tracker. The guy told me that they don't make one for a Tracker. Then he told me that I need one for a Sidekick. Is this true, because people are telling to just ask for the same year, but ask for a Sammy, not a Tracker.

So please...what do I REALLY need to ask for? I want to make sure I don't get the wrong one before I take my differential apart.

I have 93,with 5.12's.

BTW I want the Lock Rite, because the other one is more expensive.

Just give one of the companies on the front page at Zukiworld.com a call, they can hook you up with the right parts.  I prefer Hawk Suzuki, but everyone has their favorite.

The lock right for a Sidekick is the same as the Tracker is the same as the Samurai, for the rear end anyway.  For the front the only option is a specific Lockright you can get through Trail Tough or Low Range Off-Road.

Why the difference in price between the Lock Right for the sidekick and the samurai. Both are for a 6.9in rear 26 spline? Summit lists it as a part number for the sidekick as PWT 1512-LR, 4WP lists it for the sidekick as part numer PXT 1512-LR.  Both are around the same price of $270.  Now the search for the Sammy Lock Right brings up a part number at summit of PWT 1510-LR. With the price of $233.

Cliff Notes:

Summit
Sammy part number: PWT 1510-LR  $233
Sidekick part number: PWT 1512-LR  $270

4 Wheel Parts
Sammy part number: PXT 1510-LR  $230
Sidekick part number: PXT 1512-LR  $270

Two different part numbers and prices for the same rear end. Obviously two different parts. So which one to order for a 93 Tracker.

Guessing from the part number, the Samurai is for a 10 bolt, and the Trackick is for a 12 bolt?

Sammy part number: PWT 1510-LR  $233
Sidekick part number: PWT 1512-LR  $270

Sammy part number: PWT 1510-LR  $233
Sidekick part number: PWT 1512-LR  $270

so then this previous quote is not correct by another member:

The lock right for a Sidekick is the same as the Tracker is the same as the Samurai, for the rear end anyway.

No, that doesn't make sense at all.  What would the number of ring gear bolts have to do with a locker?  Nothing.
BTW, not that it is relevant, but the early trackicks had 10 bolt rear ring gears.

I thought one part number is with sidegears and the other is without. ?

The 1510 and 1512 both reuse the stock sidegears, the 1530 comes with replacement sidegears (couplers).  I think they say the 1510 is for the samurai, while the 1512 is for the trackick (but the 1510 fits trackicks just fine and is usually cheaper....as noted above).

Ohio_zuki......don't call that off-road store any more.  If they don't know that a tracker and a sidekick are the same thing when dealing with lockers, then I wouldn't trust them for any info.
To answer your original question.....a 1510 or 1530 lockright will work for your 93 tracker.  Get a 1510, if you think your sidegears are good enough to reuse.  Get a 1530, if you want replacement sidegears (lock right calls them couplers).  With whichever one you decide to get, you will have to use the specified sidegears/couplers (meaning....you can not use stock sidegears with a 1530, nor use replacement sidegears (couplers) with a 1510).
If you need pics......go to the link below and type in (or click) 1510 and 1530....it will show you pics of what each of them look like....
