New Zuki owner!!
« on: September 29, 2008, 12:49:22 PM »
Hello All,

I am new to owning a Suzuki Samurai, well sort of.  I owned a Samurai when I was younger I think I owned an 89 at the time.  Now that I am older I was looking for something to beat around town and have the top down and enjoy the ride.  I started seeing a couple of Samurais in my area and thought damn that one I owned was a lot of fun!

I have bought an 88 Samurai with 63k miles, it has very little rust and runs very well.  I am not very mechanically inclined, I can make a computer sing, but have never really gotten into working on engines.  I want to do most of the work on this Sami so I can have fun (hopefully I won't screw it up) and learn a new hobby.  I am not looking to offroad (at least not yet)  I want to have a good, fun road driver.  I am also a big Tennessee Vols fan and am in the process of turning my Samurai into a Big Orange machine.

I wanted to get some thoughts on a few issues.  First as I mentioned this has very little rust, but I live in Ohio, and am worried about it starting to rust.  I was planning on having the undercarriage, and the whole inside floor area, as well as the under side of the hood and some areas of the engine compartment rhino lined.  What does everyone think about using the Rhino liner for this purpose or do you have other suggestions?

Also,  I have noticed if I take a ride and get up to 60-65 mph, I will have a slight oil leak.  Not enough that it shows low on the dipstick, but I can see it on the ground.  However, it is for a short time period.  If I just keep the engine speeds to 50-55 mph or less, I don't have the leak.  Does this make sense, and what could be the issue?  Do I maybe just need new seals?  It doesn't really smoke or appear to burn much oil.

I'm really looking forward to using this site and getting to know you all!

GO VOLS!!!!!!
We may be having a rough start, but I'm hoping they turn it around soon.

Welcome to the forum. I'mthinking a rear main seal or drive line oil (axle, tranny) for the oil leak. Your best bet is to crawl under it and see where the oil leak is coming form and then we can give you a little better insight. I believe the 1.3L have a common leak around the base distributor that is an easy fix.
