WHAT!!! When did you see that? I wanna see!
3.4 or did you mean 4.3 V6?

It was a few years back on horsepower TV or something like that...it was a 3.4L DOHC out of the old Lumina Z34.

I'll try to find more info on it...it was on the same show that had a new model Monte with a 5.7L and rear drive...that was pretty sweet as well.

While you can never go too far wrong with too much drivetrain strength, it would seem to me that a NV3500 gearbox could live happily behind an LT1 or other V-8.  The NV3500 is half the weight of the NV4500, less expensive, and easier to find.  New Venture's own spec sheet says the NV3500 is good for 300 ft-lb of torque in a 7200 pound vehicle.

That said, I'm putting a NV3550 with my 4.3 Vortec, so I'm a little over spec'd too.  But, I'm not sure I'd ditch this lighter NV if I switched to V-8...

OK, maybe a dumb question, but is a V6 or V8 with a matching trans, in a 2-door TracKick still going to be 4WD?  Can you fit a transfer case behind the engine and trans?  What kind of tunnel body work is this going to require?  I'm curious about this because I've been led to believe that I would have a tough time fitting a OD trans (from a 4-door) behind my 1.6.

My overdrive trans. fits perfect ;D

Transfer case

Front driveshaft

Cat clearance Passenger side from below

From above-notice alot of room to spare

drivers side exhaust/cat clearance

Radiator clearance....Not much!!

And everyones favorite picture....baaahhaaawaaaaa

I've done some tidying up of the engine bay since these were takin' and added my washer bottle to the drivers side and moved the Rad. resevoir.

The NV3500's are fine but from what all the guys at the S-10 forums say, they don't fair well behind the V8's.  I agree with you though, that our light weight plays a factor but IMO, I wouldn't do it.  I'm actually using the 3500 MG5 in my rig now with the 4.3L.

As for the Opti in an LT1, the 93-94's used a sealed unit.  I always found it wierd that they went with a vented unit after that.  Most guys rant and rave about how good the vented ones are but from what I've seen, they fail a lot more often than the sealed units.  In any event, those Opti's suck.  Wish they would have never used them  :'(

Cheers,
Steve

I think I'm still gonna try to find a Zuk 2.7w/5spd because the 3.4 has 160Hp and the 4.3 has 190hp so the 2.7 wouldn't be too far off from those and I KNOW it will fit. I won't have to worry about making things fit/fabricating to fit or having to match trannys and stuff like that.

Not to mention you'll be keeping it all Zuk, and we won't be able to tease about having chebbie parts in your Tracker ;)

Yea, I think that's my favorite picture too.

Did you ever try to go true dual exhaust rather than crossing over the driveshaft?

Did you have any tunnel or other body pan work?

How about mounts and crossmembers?

I don't think I'd have the patience, let alone the skill to do that kind of installation.  Very nice work.

I'm a GM guy at heart so I won't even try to argue...

And yes, the only reason I bought the Samurai was because it was cheap!

LOL  ??? ??? ???
I like the idea of a V8 but I don't have the time, money, or garage to do it in.  I'd have to barrow a garage either way but I know that the 2.7 would be faster to do because of little or no fabrication.

:DDoesn' t that company from Florida (Lightning) build a 4.3ltr swap for the Sami and the Kick?  I would go with the 4.3 injected for ease of fitment, it has a ton of torque, easy to find, and cheap. 8)
