Suzuki considers building an SUV at CAMI
September 16th. autonews.com

Suzuki Motor Corp. wants to resume production of an SUV at CAMI Automotive in Ingersoll, Ontario. "We'll need an SUV" to boost U.S. sales, said Hiroshi Tsuda, Suzuki's president, at a press event here. "We may have a chance" to build it at CAMI "if there is room there for production."

How can there not be room?  I thought CAMI was a 50/50 deal between GM and Suzuki.  I might have to drive down there and bust some heads.  >:(

well i just started at American Suzuki so my clearance is low.  but i've seen pictures and although it looks like a good vehicle....and probably WILL be: since the Equinox is a pretty good vehicle.  i just can't wrap my head around the idea of a Suzuki SUV being a car based Hybrid uni-body SUV (i.e. CRV and RAV-4)

What if it isn't?  What if it a full blooded 4x4 that just looks like the VUE platform?

If you ask me that's a little too big...

Also, there is nothing wrong with having a car based SUV to try and boost sales.

The new 4x4  could be coming from Japan instead.

Yeah but look at the popularity of those CRVs and junk like that. AWD has been hyped up and it worked. People want a 'SUV' for in-town. Most people I know with their CRVs, RAV4s and even the GV don't offroad or go anywhere remotely close to a trail. It's just (sadly) an image. If they want to boost sales, they look at the trends in sales and see that people are getting into honda's and subarus... The chances that Suzuki will go the route of the 'ol dependable 4x4 are slim in my opinion. Safety first, looks, traction and hype.

Ha, it's hilarious, YOU'LL BE ABLE TO GO ANYWHERE WITH YOUR AUTO AWD. Take into account my experience. I had the old HCRV out on some patches, and even though I love the V6 power, my little Kick buggy climbed better and performed much better (best of all I had more fun) than it. I love CRVs, I love honda, its a nice company, but I always keep coming back to my Kick. Although our ranks as Zuke lovers are rising (mostly in the online community) I don't think we are enough to make Suzuki push for a pure bred 4x4 thats cheap and fun. They still have the shadow of the samurai incident looming over them, I'm sure all you sammy guys still get all the 'is it tippy?' comments. Hell, I get those comments myself with a four door sidekick! Bah, if Suzuki makes something remotely close to what we want, I think some of the shine of being a zuke owner would wear off. Hey it happens! Look at things like music even: Classic Metallica = GOOD, Today's Metallica = CRAP

You are correct, sir!

I have faith in Suzuki, we will get another 4x4.

God I hope so... I'd hate to have Suzuki release a unibody AWD transaxle POS, or even worse, have the Suzuki name slapped onto the Equinox. I'd love to see a BOF 4x4, but chances of that seem really slim :(

Well it's like I said before, there's nothing wrong with putting out a unibody SUV...but there will be a 4x4 added to the mix if they do.

Toyota, Nissan and Mitsubishi have room for both.

I was just referring to the difference of engine response between my kick and the hcrv. Everytime I jump into a different vehicle, people are like, whoa, slow down!! And I'm like "sorry, my vehicle doesn't repsond like this one does. " I guess I should have got more technical ::)

I thought there was a joint venture with FIAT using the Suzuki A-segment platform to produce a SUV in late 2005 but I haven't heard anything about this since the announcement  ???

As long as it's not a transaxle-based AWD setup, I'd be cool with it. And if it had a straight axle up front ;D
