Me am noob. Own a Geo. Drive in the woods. Read/comment/enjoi.

Hi all.   Been searching the archives a couple days.  Learning a lot!  This forum is GREAT!   I want to bring up a few old topics....maybe some new light can be shed.     There's some mods I want to do...but I have to choose wisely, because money is a factor, as always.....   =/

First....my weapon of choice is a 1991 Geo Tracker.  4wd.  5 speed mtx.  Stainless Calmini headers.  Ebay intake.  0" of lift with 235/75/15's.

Some things I need some info on.....

Cheap short lift...aka..coil spring spacers...or, new coil springs from something that uses taller springs?  I dug up something about using shocks from a '91 Crown Vic.  Pretty interesting.

Also looking for a cab top, or half top.  Found out that a place called "kayline?" used to make em....but alas...they went out of business years ago.   Also...Best Top makes pieces necessary to put one together...but that doesn't look like a weather-proof design.  I want to seal off the cab for the cold PA winter months.

Rusty could use some body work too....so I'm shopping for a gas-less MIG welder.  It will be my first one....so a used one isn't out of the question.  And where am I going to get steel to weld into the tracker?

I'm on my bro's laptop....so no pics for now.  But I DO have a few...and I'll work on getting some uploaded when my puter is all finished.

My goal is to make the Geo a perfect "bug out" / recon vehicle.   I want a WVO diesel engine eventually...on board air....and maybe a generator.

Your thoughts and comments are absolutely welcome.  Feel free to suggest, or flame....this is, after all...america.

Tony.

You have a Suzuki already, so that's a good start.  :D

Coil Spacers are the easiest lift short lift.  A 1.5" spacer lift and a Strut Mount Flip will get you going with your tires and stop any rubbing issues.  I went with a 3/4" front spacer and 1" rear spacer as I only wanted just enough to clear the Toyo All Terrains on mine.

BRD HTR has a good thread in the DIY section cover a new front bumper, rock sliders, swapping in taller springs from a 4 door, and dropping the diff to compensate.

Can't help you on the top, but someone else probably can.  I have seen some pretty cool setups.  Someone has made a half-cab with cover and was going to try and make them available for the public.  They might chime in.  :)

Welcome to the Sickness.  :D

Nah, I'm waiting for the pics  :P :P Why do you want a gasless MIG? As far as sheet steel is concerned then for patching stuff up the sides of old washing machines, fridges etc... usually do the job for me. Or you can find a local steel stockist.

I'm gonna...where I can.  But I have lots of space where there's supposed to be metal, in the back by the seat belt mounts and on the floor.  Need new metal patched in.  Just gonna rivet/sealant, then paint.

NP.  I grabbed that pic off the net before I even found this forum.  It's a real nice, clean looking piece of machinery, in that pic at least.

Oh my....    :'(

That's sad.  Was once a tower of power, not be reckoned with....now a parted out piece of scrap, waiting to be used for someone else's project.

That's what I did when I ended up with a pink hood after a run-in with an 8 pointer.  The nice thing about rattle can paint jobs is easy, quick and cheap touch ups after trail "incidents".
