X90 Auto to 5 speed conv.
« on: October 16, 2008, 09:58:56 AM »
I drove a 96 X90 with a 5 speed yesterday & on the street with a long hill it had no problem mantaining the speed limit of 50 mph. Now my auto keeps shifting no matter what I try. So tired driving cross country & having it bog out then rev. too high. The extra gears is what I want but finding a used/wrecked X90 to pull the trans./clutch pedels ect. just isn't happening. NOW the question! Found a 91 SideKick 2dr. Will the power tran. swap into a X90 ?  Thanx in advance.

The trannys will interchange/swap.  Not sure on the pedal assemblies though.

Actually, now that I think of it......I am doubting the pedal assemblies will swap either.  I know the pedal assemblies are different between the 89-95 trackicks and the 96 and up trackicks (has to do with the redesign of the dash, I think).....so with the X90s having air bags and a different dash than the earlier trackicks, I am guessing they will not interchange.

The auto/manual swap is an absolute pain in the rear to do. regardless of differences in years, you would be much better off to trade it for the one you want. The amount of differences that sneak up on you till you get into it is baffling. Pedal assemblies (yes they are different as soon as they put airbags in them), the wiring harnesses are totally different, computers, shifter hole in the floor, and if you have the 4 speed auto the drivelines will be different.
I've done 2 of these swaps over the years and way not worth the hassle.
