Gas Gauge ?
« on: November 16, 2008, 11:58:28 AM »
My gas gauge just started asking WEIRD.

It registered about 1/4 tank, So I filled it up a week ago and it said empty.

OK......Hmmmmm.

So i know I just filled it up and I drive all week, and now its starting to show some fuel, 1/8 tank.....?

The farther I drive the more gas it shows I have. It went to a little under 1/2 tank
and I drive and now it begins to go down as it should Right.

I went to about less than 1/4 and again filled it up.

SAYS EMPTY.......  Any Ideas here. Anyone had this before?

And what was the Fix?

Thanks.
Whats That ?
Well then go get your tow strap, and Ill be happy to take You and your Jeep to places you've only heard about.

Often, gas gauge problems are caused by a flaky ground for the fuel sender. However, senders are somewhat failure prone as well. They are installed from the top of the gas tank -- you must drop the tank to access it. I'm pretty sure the sender ground is accessible from just to the right of the license plate (mine's modified, or I'd know for sure).  I've seen new senders for around $45.

How about a new sending unit for $19.95? Just put one in from Roadless Gear and works great.  I rebent the arm that rides the rheostat wires and put it in a friend's the next day and works too.
