the time has come..wheel base pics
« on: September 10, 2004, 02:01:04 PM »
ok so kimbal and i are going to lenghthen the wheel base on my zuke

were not going to argue about how much or how it should be done..its going to be done so lets just argue on how to make the sheet metal loo the best  :-*

but what i need help with is pictures..id like to kind of make it like those new truck/suv thingys retain the 4 seats but add on a bed in the back

kimball has some ideas but i just was wondering if people had some pictures of things they thought looked cool. what im trying to stay away from is that kind of half finished i did it in the dark look

there will be a ton of other modifications but id prefer not to discuss them (kimball keep ur mouth shut! =) lol)
partly because i want it to be a suprised but partly because i dont want to be flamed..

kimball is the man that is going to be doing this so any technical questions will have to be aimed in his directions..so let the pics and suggestions fly =)

wtf??

anyways..so i was measuring tonite

from the center of the wheels its like 87" so i assume thats the wheel base?? so adding 12 or even 18" to that wont be enough to make any thing remotely cool for a bed..it will look like an after thought...

i want this thing to wheel but i want it to look right also..that is very important to me otherwise id just chop it all to s$#t and make a buggy

so what is a "good" wheel base i have heard 110" is optimum...i know theres no real right answer but just some numbers to go on...i was thinking about just making the frame longer but leaving the body the same..so id have to work the extra frame into the bumpers..dont know how that would look

and no i dont want to switch to a 4 door lol

worst comes to worst i guess i can just chop the back half off and make it a real 2 seater..i dunno i like the feel of 4 seats

One thing I have seen that really cleans up the rear of the Zuk is diamondplate. A friend of mine did this to his Zuk and I think it really cleaned up those cut fender lines

Depends what wheeling you're planning on doing. A long wheelbase is going to have a seriously reduced break over angle. I like the idea though, I would like to do something like that to a LWB Tracker, make it long enough to have a respectable sized bed.

If your buddy cut out more of the original sheetmetal, curved the diamond to be closer to the tire to be more of a wheelwell, he could have installed a storage box in that original wheelwell area, or a cooler. Just a thought.

ok..so what were thinking now is making it a 2 seater only..but a kind of extended cab..so ud have the 2 froont seats and..lets back to the middle of the wheel wells a little closer to the back of the front seats..the tail gate would then be welded in there and a kind of removable shell will be made to go here..itl use like toyota truck rear glass or something similar

the frame will be stretched..not sure how much but there will probably be a 48" bed on the back

itl sit on 37" rubber 13.5" wide i think??? no body lift just sus lift..

i was wondering if someone was any good with photoshop..and could they make a rough pic of what the above described rig would look like?? i have a hard time imagining it
