mud suzuki
« on: November 24, 2008, 08:06:49 PM »
Hello there,

I drive a 2wd car, but I've always had the urge to do some mudding. I did some looking around and learned that samurais and sidekicks are good 4 wheelers, and they're relatively cheap (if you can find them, which seem to be a task where I live). However, I've been looking around at some of the rock crawlers of the members on this site, and, boy, do people drop a lot of money into them. The thing is, i live in Louisiana, where there aren't any rocks like that. I'm not looking to rock crawl.

So my question is: If I were to get a zuki, what would be the necessary mods to make it a good, strictly mud, 4 wheeler? Do I really need an expensive 3 inch suspension lift? Or can I get along with a body lift...or no lift at all? etc..

Thanks in advance.

It all depends on how much mud you want to drive through.
Stock height, lockers, and some nice aggressive mud tires will take you surprisingly far.

Shreveport. Northwestern part.

Amilla, Cuthulu, thank you for replying. That doesn't seem that bad.

Any more replies are welcome, also.

What they said.  :)

Just remember, if you get a Tracker you can't order the standard lockright for the front end, you have to get the one with the new carrier from Low Range Off Road or Trail Tough.  :)

Pics to my '91 Geo Tracker can be seen in my sig.....and it was cheap...it's a BLAST to drive...and it's never broken down or left me stranded anywhere.   I'm not a mechanic by a long shot...and I did all the work on the tracker myself.   You shouldn't have a problem.

I bought a coil spring spacer lift from Jeff1997 here on the forum...and was easily able to fit 30" tires with room to spare!

As a matter of fact....I think I'll go out wheeling right now!   ;D

I ran 4 inch body lidt and 1 inch coil spacers with 33x12.5 tires, went everywhere I wanted it to.  dont dump the clutch, it'll last longer

I agree with the dumping the clutch part.

I would, but I don't even have the car yet haha.

Plus I don't know if I'd be able to even do a suspension lift. Body lift sounds hard enough.

My coil spacers are easier to do than a body lift. Less crap to deal with and actually "lift" the vehicle's frame higher. Body lifts are OK, I run a 3", but they just allow for bigger tires. Plus the cost is about the same.

The Monroe area? My brother is a student at ULM.

Jeff1997, if I ever do get one, I'll look into it. Like I said, they are scarce here. I saw one on craigslist for like $5400, and I saw a Grand Vitara when i went golfing yesterday. i didn't stop to look at the price though because the Vitara was 4 door and I'm not really looking for 4 door.
