1994 geo tracker help
« on: November 26, 2008, 04:55:29 AM »
I am new to the forum and new to the sidekick/tracker.I have purchased a 94 geo tracker 2dr with auto.trans for a build up and wanted to change the ring and pinion gears so I called a company that sold Yukon gears and was told that if I could find and purchase a 10 bolt rear that the gears would work on the front and rear. Is this true? From what I have read it would not work (5.38 gears by the way)and if anybody had a front and rear 5.13 3rd member that would fit my vehicle I would be interested.Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I hope that I am reading your post correctly...

There are a number of ring and pinion sets available for TracKicks (Geo Trackers and Suzuki Sidekicks are essentially the same thing) - both OEM and aftermarket.

The important thing to remember is that the front and rear ring and pinions on TracKicks are NOT interchangable!  The front axle is aluminum, offset to the passenger side and has a smaller differential housing assembly.  The rear axle is steel, centered and - most important - has a larger differential housing assembly.

Many people - including some folks at repair shops - confuse the TracKick with the Samurai.  While they are all Suzuki products, the TracKick has an IFS front suspension (duh!) while the Samurai sports a solid front axle with nominally interchangable differentials from front and rear.

I hope that this helps!

Good info, and I agree.

goodolboy89....I am not familiar with aftermarket gear sets.....so it could be possible that the 5.38 gearsets for the rears of trackicks contain a 10 bolt ring gear (early trackicks had 10 bolt rear ring gears, the later ones had 12 bolt).  So I would verify with the company to make sure they are not confusing sidekicks (trackers) with samurais (samurai front and rear gears do interchange).  The ring gear diameter for trackicks is 6.9" (samurai ring gears are smaller)...use this info to make sure the rear gearset they are selling you is for a trackick and not a samurai.
Tracker and Sidekick parts for sale.....PM me with your wants/needs.
