96 Tracker Front Diff. Madness
« on: December 14, 2008, 03:25:52 PM »
Alright guys heres the scoop, I finally got time to go check my tracker out today and what do you know my cv's are spinning freely and loosely in my front diff.... cv's seem fine, my question is, does anyone have a writeup or just some time to explain the vitara steel diff. swap, and what ill need, and also any info on possibly throwing a front axle assembly from a samurai I have access to... this is Diff. # 2 now... and they are getting hard to find in my area for a decent price.....

thanks - josh

I am converting a Sammi rear end into a front housing for my tracker diff.  Everything went together exceptionally well.  I had to special order one of the seals (the other seal and bearings are the same as the trackers, and have just received the parts to put my tracker gears into Sammi diff.  Changing the crush sleeve is more daunting than building the modification.

On the right is my new front diff housing.

I don't think I've ever seen this done before! Brilliant! If you want to get really crazy, chop both sides, center it, and make long-travel IFS :)

Great, now I'm trying to think of how far inboard you could mount the A-Arms without running into complications with the engine...

I've thought about doing this also.  Even though I an Anvil up front and the 5.83 gears, the rear is stock (busted one axil already).  If I went with a yota axil in back and up front, I would have a stronger rear end (larger tires) and more options for gears and lockers.

Has anyone tried the Calimini upgraded axil shafts?

I like that one a lot, without uppers you could have the lower arms damn near touching- or maybe crossed.
Wait, didn't Ford do something similar?

Yes they will interchange, not sure if the Sport will to regular track/kick
